~ Downtrodden Prayer ~

I can't sleep though I'm tired, I got this deep down desire.. to try to pull myself up from all this muck and mire
I got the chills the other day, someone walked across my grave.. and I know it won't be long till I get back what I gave

An' I've been down too long,
Singing the same sad song,
Wishin' the Lord would grant me peace and I could find where I belong

I've seen trouble fall like rain, I've seen good folks live in pain.. while the wicked die in their sleep and the saints they die in vain
What don't kill me makes me strong, well friend I say your wrong.. 'cause the devil you know he beat me down an' when I woke up you were gone

Dear Lord what will it take for me to catch a break.. to rise up like a phoenix out of this world of snakes
My anger how is shakes and my heart how it aches.. for me to find my place among the poets and the saints
